Free Trees Available to Landowners Beside Highway 401 through MTO and LTVCA

The Ministry of Transportation and the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority have partnered together for the spring of 2012 to inform landowners with property directly adjacent to Highway 401, of the opportunity to receive tree plantations up to 30 meters (100 ft) in from the Highway. These plantations will be at no cost to the landowner except for follow up maintenance. The first herbicide application is included; however, maintenance must be continued for the first three years as needed. Maintenance generally means mowing between rows or applying herbicide around trees for weed control as required. Mowing twice per year is sufficient or one herbicide application per year. Contact us.

Greening Partnership Program for Natural Habitat Restoration Projects Covers up to 75% Costs

The Greening Partnership is an agreement between The Municipality of Chatham-Kent, the LTVCA, SCRCA, and Stewardship Kent to green our municipality through tree plantings, tall grass prairie, and wetland restoration. The Chatham-Kent Parks, Cemeteries and Horticulture department administers the program and provides LTVCA staff with the financial means to implement the program. Greening Partnership staff access funds and leverage grant money that is used to educate, provide outreach, purchase trees, and provide financial support to landowner's to cover the cost of greening their property.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority administers a Greening Partnership program for Natural Restoration projects. Up to 75% of costs may be covered. Benefits include salt and noise buffer, increased microclimate for advanced yield on fields, improved water infiltration and erosion control, improved air quality, and heating and cooling energy savings. Species selected will be determined by salt tolerance and soil type. The project will be administered by Conservation Services staff. To participate in this exclusive program, or get information on any of our Greening Partnership programs contact us.
